Stash Busting

Every now and then, you need to take a hard look at your stash and try to use up some of the beads that have been hanging around for a while, or might be lonely leftovers from a larger, long-ago completed project. That’s what I did this weekend. I tried to make pretty, unique projects without buying anything new. Here are my results:

Lampworked glass and sterling silver beads

Charm necklace with labradorite briolette, Czech glass, and silver

Quartz, fluorite, and India glass

Is it spring yet?
Working with what you have can be challenging, but it can be freeing as well. I love these bead combinations, but I never would have "planned" these designs in advance. What do you think?

  2. I have some major stash busting to do! I have a whole printers' cabinet filled to overflowing with treasures I am hoarding, er, collecting. I have to dust them off and let them fly free before I forget where I got them!
    Enjoy the day, Karin!

  3. Tracy -- you have good eyes! I wasn't sure it showed up very well. Erin--sometimes it's fun to just let the beads take over and do the designing for you!

  4. I just found your blog after buying the Absolute Beginner's Guide book. I have to say I stood there for about an hour at the craft store paging through every bead and jewelry book there, and this one seemed to be the easiest to understand. I am just starting and hoping to sell jewelry at craft fairs and online soon, since I am only 24 and disabled, I have to find some other way to supplement our income, and looking at jewelry I always said, "Oh I like that design but not the color" or "love the colors and design but it's not the right texture" and it dawned on me- I can make my own because it will be like no one's I've seen so far! So anyway, I have my own blog and part of it is my journey on jewelry making and whatnot and I'm hoping eventually to have my own jewelry website. I can't wait to get your other book once I have some basic skills down :)

I love the colors you used and the way you combined them. Stash busting is such a good creative exercise!

PS I've added you to my feed so I'll catch all the news now :)

  7. Wow, these are lovely pieces! The color coordination is lovely and goes so well. The heart on the bracelet gives it a cute edgy look! Wish I can pick up one of these gems.
